Dear families,
This week has been full of learning and fun. We did an assigned article in “Newsela” on Syrians. On Monday we had a social studies test and in math, we learned how to multiply decimals and regrouping them. Also, in PE we finished our football unit and started our soccer unit. We learned more about how to control the ball. We practiced our new spelling words and wrote down our high frequency words.
And on Tuesday, we had science and we got to do an experiment with yeast. The experiment was, How do you activate yeast? It was very fun to watch the yeast bubble. We also recently learned a new activity for morning meeting called “Wee Wah Woo”. It is so fun and hilarious. The game gets kind of harder as you play. It soon got complicated.
On Wednesday, we had math and we worked more on multiplying decimals. We also got our math quizzes back and almost all of us aced it. In social studies we did an activity with the IPads using “Explain Everything”. It was very fun. We looked at unique objects and we explained our thinking about what they were. In ELA we recently finished the book called A Long Walk To Water by Linda Sue Park. It is a very good book. It is about a war in Southern Sudan and it is based on a true story. You should go read it. It is very interesting and good. We did a reading response on the IPads and had to type what’s the theme of the book and a character trait about a real main character, Salva. We saw pictures of Southern Sudan and Salva.
On Thursday, we did “Zearn”, a math game. We learned and strengthened our minds a lot by it. In science, we observed our red worm habitat and jot down what we saw in our notebooks. Then we did our sugar cube skulls in art and decorated it. It was awesome. In ELA, we worked on our rough drafts of our story. Some stories were fiction or true. We did our new read aloud book at the end of the day- Stella by Starlight. By Sharon M. Draper. And it is about a time during segregation. The character are Stella, and her younger brother Jojo.
On Friday in morning meeting, we went to Mrs. Oeser Rhein’s room for our Aloha Frog meeting. In social studies we just got our tests back and I think we did well. We went on our IPads to TCI, a website to help us learn more of social studies. In PE we worked more on controlling the soccer ball and we played a game called “Spider Man” which is similar to “Stuck in the mud”.Well that is really it.

From,
  Chris and Linda
